8. CD4 Machine – this is a real urgent need as the CD4 counts are a critical indicators as to when
should patients with HIV/AIDS start ART therapy. However, these machines can cost up to 150,000
USD with the average entry level machine being 50,000. We have seen used machines for 15,000 to
25,000 dollars
9. Resuscitation kits are life savers – Cost unknown at this time
10. Incubators for prematures – Cost is USD 500 minimum basic model.
11. Vacuum extractors as delayed labour is a real problem due to the commonly under developed
pelvises in the community served – Cost is unknown at this time.
12. Suction machines are not available to all the wards - manual and electric are both needed
desperately.
13. Trolley stands/carts – Cost USD 400
14. Baby cots for the pediatrics ward and maternity ward.
15. Glucometers and many glucometer strips – Cost about USD 50 for meter, and about two strips for
every dollar.
